Jacquesson – Champagne

The Jacquesson House was created in 1798 and is located in Dizy.

In 1844, the Jacquesson house filed the patent for the muselet (made of wire) which still makes Champagne’s reputation today. It was also the favorite Champagne of Napoleon I !

The House took off again when it was taken over by the Chiquet brothers in 1974. From then Jacquesson definitely win his spurs.

In the heart of the great Champagne terroirs, it produces around 250,000 bottles per year and practices traditionalist farming methods (plowed or grassed soils, short pruning and most treatments are organic).

The House only uses the first juice “la Cuvée” from 1er Crus (Dizy and Hautvillers) and Grand Crus (Ay, Avize and Oiry).

Old barrels are used mainly for winemaking. The lees are stirred, the wines are generally neither chilled, nor filtered, nor fined; clarification occurs naturally.

Cuvée 700 is the only great blended wine produced but with two different maturations, the second aging is called Dégorgement Tardif and benefits from 5 additional years on lees.

And the Lieux-dits ? The emphasis on a specific terroir is in Jacquesson’s DNA, only in the finest vintages :

Corne Bautray and Terres Rouges in Dizy, Vauzelle Terme in Aÿ and Champ Caïn in Avize.

The ambition of Maison Jacquesson: to participate in creating the greatest wines of Champagne.

Contract clearly fulfilled with laudatory comments from both amateurs and the international specialist press (Wine Advocate, Jancis Robinson…) and also from the french press.

William Kelley (Wine Advocate) : “…and based on the latest 700-series wines, the future will be very exciting indeed. I hadn’t seen Jean-Hervé Chiquet for a number of years, so this visit was a great opportunity to catch up and to remind myself of the many reasons there are to admire this exemplary Maison.”

RVF (***) “Here we are in what Champagne can produce the best in terms of terroir wines with an assertive personality. The credit goes to the Chiquet brothers, Jean-Hervé in sales and Laurent in winemaking, two enthusiasts of great wines from around the world who have raised the level of demands in the vineyard and cellar to the highest level here. »

Bettane et Dessauve (*****): “This old house, taken over in 1974 by the Chiquet brothers, Laurent and Jean-Hervé, has gradually become the standard bearer of connoisseur champagne, translating with incredible fidelity the potential of terroirs that it illustrates. »

Since December 2022, it has been part of the Artemis Domaines group (Pinault family).
