Domaine Barm\u00e8s-Buecher, located in the heart of the Alsace region, just a few kilometres from Colmar and Eguisheim, was founded in 1985 by Genevi\u00e8ve Barm\u00e8s (n\u00e9e Buecher) and her husband Fran\u00e7ois Barm\u00e8s. They combined the landholdings of their respective families, who had owned vines in Wettolsheim, one of the region\u2019s largest wine-producing towns, since the 17th century.
Genevi\u00e8ve and Fran\u00e7ois chose to grow their vines using biodynamic methods, with a focus on respect for nature, life forces and natural cycles. The Domaine\u2019s 17 hectares were converted to biodynamic growing in 1998 and have been certified biodynamic since the 2001 vintage<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2011, the accidental disappearance of Fran\u00e7ois, accelerated the involvement of his daughter
Sophie and his son Maxime. Maxime took over production and vinification and, along with his sister and mother, continued the rigorous work in the vineyards and winery intent on producing wines with very distinctive personalities.
The recognition from the French and international press, as well as a loyal clientele, attest to the Barm\u00e8s-Buecher family\u2019s great expertise and the quality of the wines produced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Domaine Barm\u00e8s-Buecher crafts its wines in a winery sitting in the heart of the vineyards, using an excellent raw material, the grape, grown with great care and respect. The wines reflect the subtle relationship between the vine, the terroir, the vintage and man. Their approach is based on \u2018bespoke\u2019 practices which are adapted to the individual needs of each plot of vines in order to produce authentic wines which are a true reflection of their terroir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The estate prefers to use manual growing practices to respect the vine and terroir and to minimise the mechanical work carried out in the vineyards, where they use only lightweight machinery to reduce soil compaction. Animal traction has even been reintroduced in the Hengst Grand Cru vineyards. All of the work in the vineyards is carried out by permanent and experienced team members in close collaboration with Maxime and the family. Thanks to their painstaking, meticulous work, the Domaine is able to produce unique wines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each bottle bears the stamp of its terroir respecting and continuing the family\u2019s work over several generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The range extends over 18 hectares, 7 terroirs (Rosenberg, Leimental, Clos Sand, Herrenweg) including 3 Grands Crus (Hengst, Pfersigberg, Steingrubler).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the grape varieties bring together the whole range of local varieties :<\/p>\n\n\n\n

26% Riesling, 16% Pinot Gris, 8% Pinot Blanc, 4% Chardonnay, 21% Gewurztraminer, 12% Auxerrois, 8% Pinot Noir, 3% Muscat Ottonel and 2% Sylvaner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The range is divided into 3 parts: fruit wines, terroir wines and Grands Crus, which includes a Brut Nature and a maceration wine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Praised by critics (3 stars in the Revue des Vins de France) and having received very high scores in the 2025 February Wine Advocate report (91-96\/100), the Barmes Buecher estate plays in the big league of Riesling, Pinot Gris and other Gewurztraminer!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Alsatian high-end, at a price that is still affordable. An excellent deal!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
